There are lots of different kinds of door hardware you can choose to protect your home or business premises and whichever one you need, we’ve got you covered.
We stock world-leading brands of locks, and ones with a reputation of excellence when it comes to securing your property. Unlike many other locksmiths, we know that it can be a complex decision which ones to install on which doors.
Here are a selection of the high security locks we can install:
Our team makes sure that all your locks meet or exceed the requirements for security and for insurance purposes.
We give you the complete peace of mind that your door lock will be able to withstand damage from a forced entry attack as well as things like lock picking and force applied to a lock to snap it.
The British Standards Institution is responsible for certifications of high security locks, so if you choose a lock that has been tested to these standards it is sure to deliver excellent long-term security.
Locks that have been approved are given a BS rating and the different kinds of locks are given a number code as folllows:
BS3621 – these are door locks which can be opened by a key on both sides of the door to operate the opening and closing mechanism.
BS8621 – this kind of lock has a thumb turn on the inside which releases the lock, but on the outside it can still be opened and closed with a key.
BS10621 – as well as being able to lock it with a key from the outside, it also has the ability to be locked on the inside
If you’re looking for a strong, high security lock, make sure that it is BS approved. These locks also must meet certain criteria against attacks like drilling and picking. For a mortice lock, this means that they must:
If you’re upgrading to a high security lock for insurance purposes, changing locks on a recently purchased home or simply want to secure your family better, then choosing one that is BS. British Standard rates will ensure that any claims you make are valid, as you’ve taken extra steps to protect your home or business.
In the same way that mortice locks have a rating system so you know they have met certain criteria, when you need a cylinder lock installation, there is an equivalent ranking system. The gold star for a lock cylinder is a 3 star rating, and this can be achieved in different ways.
Here are the different star ratings for cylinders you can choose from when you opt for lock installation from Knightsbridge Locksmith:
1-star rating – the most basic security level often used on doors that do not require protection from lock snapping
2-star rating – rather than being applied to them cylinder, this rating is often used for door accessories such as handles
3-star rating – when you install a cylinder of this calibre you can be sure it is resistant to snapping and drilling attacks by a burglar
Locks which have a high star rating will be kitemarked with TS007, and are often found stamped on Euro cylinders for uPVC and composite doors.
Cylinders and door parts can be used together to create 3-star rated lock.
For example, if you have a cylinder that is ranked as 1-star, then you can use a handle that is 2-star to make the whole lock 3-star rated. Another way to do this is with a normal handle, but a 3-star rated lock.
This is because a 2-star handle will include many security features like hardened steel or a backplate that’s been reinforced in order to protect the cylinder.
A 3-star cylinder on the other hand will have many of these features already built-in, such as a part that can break away if unauthorised entry is attempted so the burglar cannot access the actual locking mechanism.
Insurers prefer that you have a 3-star security system following this method, or you can have the equivalent, which for cylinders is a SS312 Diamond rating (Sold Secure).
With so many lock brands on the market, it can be hard to know which one is going to protect your home the best. We do offer a range of locks from budget models to top-end brands, so no matter what kind of security needs you have, you can trust us to offer the correct solution.
Let’s take a look at some of the most popular brands for UK homes and businesses:
Banham is a name synonymous with quality, but they are also some of the most expensive high-security locks. With high-quality materials that prevent drilling and snapping, these locks also come with registered keys so that they can’t be copied without an authorisation code known only to the owner.
If you have timber doors, then they can be broken into by breaking the wood frame, but you can reinforce the door with a Banham lock that throws the bolt deep into the frame.
You can choose from deadlocking nightlatches, which means you don’t need a handle on the exterior of the door, or a British Standard mortice deadlock with 5 levers as standard to prevent easy picking.
Yale has been manufacturing door hardware for many years, and in this time, it has become an expert at creating locks to secure any type of building door.
With a commitment to designing cylinders that are anti-snap and anti-bump, Yale offers perhaps the widest selection of high-security door locks. This includes the TS007 cylinder for both composite and uPVC doors, and it’s also 3-star rated.
Yale locks are easy to fit, and as many doors already use Yale locks, we’re often able to replace the locks like-for-like. A durable Yale lock offers superior levels of protection and ensures that common methods used by burglars will be redundant on their locks.
Now part of the wider Assa Abloy brand, Union locks (previously known as Chubb locks) are a leader in high-quality door locks.
They specialise in insurance-grade deadlocks and sashlocks, which are BS3621 rated. As they have a five-lever mechanism, they are extremely difficult to pick with tools. They boast strong bolts and multilocking systems, which means they are resilient to forced entry attempts such as kicking or shouldering a door.
We recommend Union locks on front doors for added security, but they are also great for interior doors, too, which need to be secured with a three-lever system.
Locks made by Ingersoll have been designed and tested with strength in mind above anything else. This brand uses materials found in no other lock, which are highly resistant to drilling.
If you try to drill one of the specialist high-security locks from this brand, the drill will blunt. If you try to snap the lock, then the mechanisms inside will fail, meaning you can’t open the door even if the lock is cracked open.
This brand has a great range of locks, including nightlatches which automatically lock when you shut the door, as well as mortice deadlocks.

Banham locks are widely acknowledged as the number one lock when you need a restricted key profile which can’t be duplicated. This means that even if someone finds your lost key, they can’t make a copy of it. The reason they are so highly recommended is that the locks, as well as the keys, are made with premium materials and are designed to withstand entry attempts like snapping and drilling.
We can fit smart locks you can rely on to protect your property from theft, as they require a keycode or fob to open the door, and if it’s lost, then it can easily be reprogrammed. A smart lock can save you money in the future, as you can just update it with software for better encryption. These locks are often used in schools and universities, but whatever location you decide to install it we can offer support.
